To celebrate their 78th birthday, Chicago’s CTA operated a pair of vintage cars around The Loop! Running for several hours midday and allowing any ticketed passengers to board or disembark, the century-old 4000-series cars garnered plenty of attention from trainspotters and commuters alike! Numbered 4271 and 4272, these were built by the Cincinnati Car Company in 1923! The 4000-series lasted in active service in Chicago until 1973, at which point the last cars were retired. Chicago's debut album "Chicago Transit Authority" celebrates 56 years! Released on April 28, 1969, the album was selected for induction into The National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. The Registry archives audio treasures worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage. 25 recordings were selected for preservation – “Chicago Transit Authority” finished No. 1 in public nominations this year!!
